Latte, espresso, cappuccino... we kind of know what the basics are. Drinking espresso can be easy (or easy-ish, follow our guide to being a professional coffee drinker), ordering it can be complicated. We've decided to compile a list of the different kinds of espresso drinks to ease you're confusion, especially if you're not fluent in italian.
A.K.A. Short Black. It is what it means, one shot of espresso in an espresso cup.
A.K.A. Double Espresso. 2 shots of espresso in an espresso cup.
It's a shot of espresso in a short glass with a dollop of steamed milk and foam on top of it.
2 shots of espresso in a short cup with a dollop of steamed milk and foam on top of it.
It's a standard espresso shot made with half of the amount of water.
A.K.A. Long Black. It's 2/3 hot water, and one shot of espresso over it.
1 shot of espresso with steamed milk and about 1cm of froth above it.
1 shot of espresso, steamed milk, about 2 cm of frothed milk above the steamed milk and sprinkled with chocolate.
1 shot of espresso into a cup with steamed milk.
1 ristretto shot of espresso, some steamed milk and a tiny amount of froth on top.
1 shot of espresso, a spoon of chocolate powder mixed in the espresso shot. Then add steamed milk and about 2 cm of froth on top. Finally sprinkle some chocolate powder on top.
One scoop of vanilla ice cream in a short glass and pour an espresso shot over it.
